Flower Care

Unwrapping
  • Step 1: Count the bunches as you are pulling them out of the box. Get in contact with us right away if anything is awry.
  • Step 2: Remove any leaves that fall below the waterline of your containers (some flowers will have lots of foliage on the stem). When removing foliage, be very careful and gentle to not damage the stem. Removing any foliage that falls below the waterline will help prevent the growth of mold or bacteria which could cause premature wilting.
  • Step 3: Give everything a fresh cut (about 1 inch off), at an angle, with your snips and put them in fresh water right when you get them. It’s important to use pruners not scissors (scissors aren’t sharp enough and may crush the stems slightly, which hinders water uptake).
  • Allow flowers at least 4 hours to hydrate in a bucket of clean water before you start arranging, some may take up to 12 hours to properly hydrate. Periodically check the water levels, flowers drink a lot of water when they first arrive and the water may need to be refilled.
  • Make sure you have ample amount of buckets so flowers aren’t smushed. We generally say 3-4 bunches of flowers per bucket.
  • You don’t need to store the flowers in the fridge, a cool dark place away from fans/animals/children (like a basement) is more than sufficient. If they aren’t opening up fast enough (carnations are a really slow opener) put them in a sunny place it’ll accelerate their opening.
Quality
  • If you unpack your flowers and think they look a little under the weather, follow the regular flower care (cut the ends using pruners not scissors, and put in a clean bucket of water). After a few hours re-hydrating they will be re-invigorated and ready to go! If they don’t liven up after those few hours, get in touch with us and we’ll be able to help right away.
  • Since flowers are a product of Mother Nature, the exact color tones of the flowers may vary to some degree. Some flowers (e.g. mums) have quite a bit of variability in color hue and may not look exactly like the photos.
  • IMPORTANT ** Not every bud will be perfect and a few may break while unpacking, look a little too mushed, etc. Don’t let this stress you out! It’s totally normal and to be expected when dealing with fresh/live product.
Rose Specific Care
  • Within each bunch, standard roses are packed in two layers to ensure protection during shipping. From the top angle, it will appear that you only have 12 rose stems in the bunch; however, below this layer there is a second layer containing the remaining 13 roses. Garden roses are shipped in 10 stem bunches.
  • We ship our roses in bud form. Once the rose is processed and hydrated, the bloom will open to a much larger size. It takes 1-2 days for them to open up.
  • We ship our roses with guard petals intact to protect the roses while travelling. These petals might cause the rose to look distorted, discolored and/or bruised. Once you are ready to process your roses, you’ll need to remove the guard petals to reveal the pristine quality rose bloom.
  • Leave the cardboard packaging on for 2-4 hours while they are hydrating (they support the delicate blooms while they hydrate). After that, remove cardboard and place roses in a sunny spot so they will open to full capacity. If you’re not ready for them to fully open, keep them in a cooler, darker area. Note that once they open up, there is no going back!
